These are among the top items of obsession for a savvy 21st-century kitten (who is scheduled for an "altering" procedure, unbeknownst to him):

1. Printer/scanner (HP PSC All-in-one 2110): When he hears this in gear, he immediately leaps onto it to make a copy of his butt.
2. Coffeemaker (vintage Proctor-Silex, 2-12 cups): What could be more exciting .. liquid pouring through something that makes interesting sounds, steam rising from it? Plus, it helps give the owner the energy to feed him and deal with his horrifying litterbox, if not the energy to gallop around the apartment at 30 mph making whirring sounds.
Yesterday, I found him standing on the toaster to get a better view of the brewing process. Today, I found him perched right on the coffeemaker, quite a feat considering his size.
3. VCR: It enrages him, as he obviously knows it is thoroughly obsolete. He wonders why he has to have some damned Luddite owner.
4. Hairdryer: also scary, part of a realm he can't figure out. What the f--- is up with this getting oneself thoroughly wet only to try to dry oneself. ?

I've preregistered him at Madison Area Technical College where he will get a certificate in Small Electronics.

Govna

We Midwesterners are a humble, down-home group, just plain folks. Tonight at the movies, who should be ahead of us in line but Gov. Jim Doyle and his wife, both in jeans and sneaks. Nobody even noticed them except for the befuddled ticket seller. They went to see either "For Your Consideration " or "little Miss Sunshine." Definitely were not seeing Borat.

A typical day in the neighborhood .....

We are having a sleet/snowstorm, wind, 20-something windchill. While walking to the store, I encountered a woman shoveling. The woman, maybe 50-something, was barefoot and she said she does not wear shoes to "protest strip searches."

I do not have a photo of the woman, or her feet, so I am going to post this photo instead because it's just so cute.
